Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week has been filled with budgets - supplemental operating proposals from both House Democrats and the Senate Majority Coalition Caucus (SMCC). We have also seen supplemental capital and transportation budgets introduced this week.

My video this week touches on the House Democrat plan, as well as a controversial bill we voted on this week - police body cameras, and property taxes. I am sure most people are very excited to get their property tax bills this time of year. Click the photo below to watch my video.

Rep. Cary Condotta gives his video update Feb. 24As for the operating budget proposals, there are significant differences between the House Democrat and SMCC budgets. The House Democrat budget drains the Rainy Day Fund, relies on tax increases, and does not honor our state's four-year budget outlook statute.

The House passed the proposed spending plan on a party-line vote, 50-47. House Republicans offered a number of amendments during the budget debate with the hope of improving it and directing funds to education, but most also failed on party lines.

The good news is the Senate plan is much more fiscally responsible. The Senate passed its budget on Friday. I am hopeful the negotiated budget between the two chambers will address many of the concerns my colleagues and I have with the proposal that passed the House.

We have less than two weeks left. Things should get interesting. Stay tuned...

Sincerely,

Cary Condotta
