Dear Friends and Neighbors,

A reminder to exercise your right to vote this Tuesday. Even though there are no statewide races on the ballot this Election Day, I urge you to get out and vote as there are two important initiatives and many local races on your ballot.

Voting is the cornerstone of a democracy. Unfortunately, too few people vote, especially in year's where we don't have presidential, gubernatorial or statewide elections. Your vote counts and it is even more critical when voter turnout is expected to be low. It is a great opportunity to make sure your voice is heard and be involved in the political process.

It is critical we understand the relevant issues and vote responsibly, not only for this election, but the upcoming election cycles as well. The next couple of elections will end up shaping our country and state for many years.

Legislature convenes Jan. 12

The legislative session is a little over two months away. It is the so-called "short session" but we will be working on many issues over the 60-day session.

Education funding continues to be at the forefront of most discussions. Despite the historic funding levels the Legislature provided in the 2015-17 budget cycle for K-12 education the state Supreme Court said these efforts still fall short of its directive under the McCleary decision. We will also be looking at options to address charter schools as the Court recently deemed them unconstitutional.

If you have any questions, concerns or ideas about the upcoming session, please let me know. Some of the best ideas for legislation come from constituents.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Cary Condotta
