Rep. Cary Condotta’s interim update, Nov. 24, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The upcoming 2016 legislative session is less than two months away. There will be discussion and debate about education, specifically related to the court rulings this interim on McCleary and charter schools. I also expect us to continue our work on marijuana regulation, health care, taxes and other issues.

The session is scheduled for 60 days.  Your input is important to me, so I hope you will take the time to let me know if you have any priority issues or concerns. Your feedback assists me in serving you to the best of my abilities.

I am also requesting you contact me about any state agency issues you might be dealing with, or have dealt with recently. It seems my office has received an increasing number of calls regarding problems with our state agencies, particularly the Department of Labor and Industries.

Our state agencies have a tendency to impose rules and regulations on citizens as answers to perceived problems. Their actions end up impacting not only citizens, but communities and local governments as well. In my opinion, they have become far too punitive. It is important we hold them accountable. We are working on legislation to reign them in. Until then, it is important I hear from you if there are perceived or potential problems.

I also want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Please keep those going through difficult times in your thoughts and prayers. The curtailment of the Wenatchee Works Alcoa plant is not only difficult on the employees, but it impacts our surrounding communities and local economy. The 12th District is full of compassionate and resilient people and we will work our way through this. We will do all we can in Olympia to accommodate re-opening.
